Vegangrams

Welcome to the fourth installment of Vegangrams. This is where I curate pictures that accumulate on my phone.  Some have made an appearance on instagram, while some have just been sitting and collecting digital dust on my phone. In no particular order…

BBQ “shrimp” with sauteed kale and tomatoes on top of creamy polenta. This dish was inspired by Cadry at Cadry’s Kitchen.

Me getting scurred at the Netherworld haunted house before Halloween. This was my second year going courtesy of Neal’s sis (thanks!). I’m proud to say that I did not pee my pants this time around. Just kidding, I peed my pants both time. No, really just kidding…I didn’t pee in my pants either time. I was even brave enough to get my pics taken with these hotties.Netherworld - Luminous Vegans

Using up my free sample of the Vegg in a breakfast english muffin sandwich. There’s fried tofu “egg” with Vegg yolk and coconut bacon (the same coconut bacon used in this twice baked butternut squash). The Vegg - Luminous Vegans

The dogs clearly not caring that I’m trying to put the sofa covers on after having washed them. This is their nap time after all.Greyhounds - Luminous Vegans

Oh, just hanging out with Alicia Silverstone at a Kind Life Atlanta Meetup hosted by Dough Bakery.

We recently took a trip to Oregon and played in Eugene for a couple of days. Here’s a chocolate chip doughnut from Voodoo Donuts in Eugene, Oregon. By the way, is it DOUGHnuts or DOnuts? I donot know which is correct. See what I did there?

We also played in Portland some. Here we are by Multnomah Falls thanks to our lovely tour guides Kenn and Jeanette.

When we travel with the pups, they each curl up on opposite ends of the backseat. But Miles sometimes plops himself in the middle not giving his sister any room. She’s a resourceful cookie though. (Please know that they did not stay this way. I made sure to help readjust them so they were both comfortable.)

My eyes on Neal’s face and Neal’s eyes on my face. Things like this are not an uncommon way for us to entertain ourselves.

A meal with Neal’s family at Cardamom Hill Restaurant. Acorn squash roasted in a banana leaf and topped with coconut curry. Served with cardamom-scented plantains and rice pilau. Cardamom Hill Atlanta - Luminous Vegans

This last pic is technically not a phone pic. Here, I am watching Isa give a fun food demonstration at Atlanta’s Veg Fest.  The room was packed and I was in the back because, well, because Isa. She made an extremely tasty caeser salad with tempeh and quinoa. Leave it to Isa to make a salad that made me go “Day-um!! That’s good!”. She also talked about her new restaurant in Omaha a bit. It is meant to be cozy comfort food. I may or may not want to move to Omaha now.

PS. More pics of the Atlanta Veg Fest taken by Seth at VEGANesp can be found here.

I can’t decide which is most amazing… Hanging out with Alicia Silverstone, your hilarious eyes pictures, or that curry filled acorn squash!

I had no idea Isa is opening a restaurant. Love her and am so excited for her, though I hope that doesn’t mean she’ll be too busy for more cookbooks!

I was so bummed to hear that you got sick! I peeked my head into the kids craft room and didn’t see you and the person standing in for you told me where you were. The whole veg fest was crazy packed! That is why I didn’t get many pictures. I couldn’t stay too long after Isa’s talk because I was kinda getting claustrophobia.

“Just” hanging out with Alicia Silverstone! What a great use of phone pics. I need a day like this to post all the accumulated food shots that just sit in folders unused. No reasons, no excuses — just post ‘em. The food all looks great, and you and your husband are adorable, but my favorite shot is the dog butts. Dogs are the best. :)

Yes, please do a phone photo post! For me this gives me something to say when someone is looking at my phone and sees a gajillion photos of food—oh that, I’m gonna blog about it :-)

Meeting Alicia was fun. It sounds so cliche, but she was really down to earth. Talking to her was like chatting with an old friend.

Barbecue sauce with polenta is such a perfect pairing! I haven’t tried those veggie shrimp. What did you think of them? Thanks for linking to my post! :)

Thank you also for coming clean about the pant peeing. Wait. That’s not right.

How fun that you met Alicia Silverstone! I keep thinking we’ll see her at some event or another, and I want David to reenact his big scene with her from Clueless. http://rack.0.mshcdn.com/media/ZgkyMDEzLzA3LzE5LzdjL2NoZXJwdXNoaW5nLjk0YmZmLmdpZgpwCXRodW1iCTEyMDB4OTYwMD4/fa7fb87c/630/cher-pushing.gif (He was an extra, and it was one of his first jobs in LA!)

Way cool too that you hung out with Kenn & Jeanette. Outside of Jeanette’s pottery sale, did you two hang out in Atlanta? Or did you just hit it off when you were at that event?

I love it that you and Neal entertain each other with iPhone pics of each other’s eyes. You’re my kind of people.

As always, the pictures of the pups make my day!

(I saw on FB that Isa spilled the beans on the name of the Omaha restaurant while she was there. *whispers* Tell me! I won’t tell anyone!)

The veggie shrimp were good. It wasn’t a big name brand I don’t think. It was some Asian company as we found it at the Asian market.

And OMG, that was David?!? That’s so incredibly cool! I wish I could pause that little clip. Guess, now I’ll just have watch that movie again :-). Alicia is really nice. It was like chatting with an old friend when I met her.

We’ve known Kenn and Jeanette before the sale. Something about vegans gravitating towards each other in cities… They are doing great in PDX and their new house is waaay adorable. I’m sure you’ve seen some of their new adventures on Jeanette’s instagram feed.

If you liked our “phone eyes”, wait till you see our “phone mouths”…

And Isa did spill the beans about her restaurant name. I didn’t include it in the post because I’m not sure she meant to. Maybe we can work out some kind of deal….something involving cookies mayhaps…

You should totally do a phone pic post! Alicia Silverstone is really nice. I usually get really nervous when meeting people and famous people?? Forget about it. But she was so down to earth and easy to talk to. It was like chatting with an old friend.

It was a great event! Super crowded. I think like 3000 people went. It was great fun to see Alicia and Isa! Alicia is so down to earth and was easy to talk to. And Isa was just as sassy as ever during her food demo.

Looky you hanging out with all the celebs! I think if I met Alicia Silverstone I would have told her Clueless changed my life, or something else stupid and fan girly like that.
Your pups are funny, my cat has a similar approach to sitting wherever he damn well pleases.

I know right! My brush with famous people happened all at once. Alicia was really easy to talk to. It felt like talking to an old friend. I think that usually is the case when vegans meet each other. There’s just like this instant bond. I can’t even talk to some non-famous people as easily as I talked to Alicia.

The eye pictures are too funny!! Also I love seeing pictures of your dogs! Our neighbors have a greyhound and I think they are such sweet dogs with a really unique type of beauty.

Oh oh and I FINALLY found big coconut flakes at a natural food grocer so that means I can try your twice baked squash recipe–yay!!

Aw, I’m glad you’ve gotten a chance to be around greyhounds. They do have such sweet temperaments. I find ours to be very sensitive pups, unlike most other dogs that I know.

So happy you found coconut flakes! They are fun to munch on by themselves as well. But I do hope that you enjoy the recipe.

Awesome that you met Alicia, Holly told me all about it – btw, I’m living in Eugene at the moment – didn’t know you were there! Did you get the chance to go to Cornbread Cafe there?

I totally forgot that you live in Eugene! We only were in Eugene for a couple of busy days. We did get a chance to eat at Cornbread Cafe and I have to post about it soon. I had the omelette and it was AMAZING! We may be in Eugene again (I’ll let you know)!
